1. Is there a specific way to burn my candle to make it last longer?
Most candles are designed to burn just over one hour per inch in diameter. For example, our glass-filled candles are designed to burn for approximately 2-3 hours at a time or per usage. If a candle is burned for periods less than what it was designed, the candle will start to 'tunnel'. You can avoid tunneling by making sure you, more times than not, burn the candle for the appropriate time.
Wicks should be trimmed every 3-4 hours of burning. So with our candles, if burned for the recommended time period, you could trim the wick to 1/4" prior to each time you use it.
If your candle should start burning to one side, adjust the wick or check for a draft. All cotton wicks do not stay in place as well as the non-desired metal-core wicks, so you may need to adjust the wick occasionally.
Any candle flame can smoke if the flame is not burning efficiently. Other brands of candles will smoke because of the petroleum levels in the wax. Even essential oils can cause smoke. Our candles will not smoke if you take proper care of the wicks. If one of our candle flames is smoking, it is not burning efficiently. What you are seeing is carbon that is not able to burn off because the flame is too big or is in a draft. Remove the candle from the draft and/or trim the wick. Because soy wax burns slower than paraffin, we must use thicker wicks to melt the wax to the edge. Because of this, the wicks will tend to cause smoke IF THE WICK IS NOT KEPT TRIMMED!
PLEASE TRIM YOUR WICKS WITH EVERY USE!

3. My candle seems to be yellow. Is this normal?
Yes it is. Some of the fragrance oils that we use will discolor the wax. Usually any fragrance that carries citrus or vanilla scents are the ones that look slightly yellow.
4. Is all soy wax safe to use on my skin?
No. Any soy candle that you purchase to scent your home or a particular room with is not made for contact with your skin. The high levels of fragrances in those types of home candles do not meet the FDA approved amount for bath and body usage. Lotion candles are considered a cosmetic and fragrance may only be applied in skin safe amounts; which is regulated by the FDA standards. Our choice in soy wax is manufactured to meet FDA and Kosher standards. The premium soy beans we use are free from pesticides, herbicides and GMM (genetically modified material) so you are ultimately getting a pure candle from start to finish.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
A candle that you purchase from a store to scent your entire room thoroughly contains far more than FDA approved amounts of fragrance for bath and body products and could be very unsafe for use on your skin. Please only use Lotion Candles for your skin, not highly fragrant candles.
5. Can I use the melted wax immediately after blowing out my candle?
Of course! Provided you follow the guidelines and extinguish your candle before using, and not place your fingers directly into the wax while the candle is still burning. The melted lotion is almost lukewarm, like most bath water and can be directly applied to the skin to receive the benefits of soy. Nurture and comfort your skin when you apply the Lotion Candle.
Many people who have allergies should check with their physician or allergist before use. We only use the highest quality of premium soy bean wax, but an allergy is an allergy, so please are safe in using our product.
A Green Candle Company’s Lotion Line only contains the FDA approved amount of fragrance for topical use. DO NOT attempt to apply other candles throughout your home to your skin as their levels of fragrance are too high. We very strongly advise that you test our Lotion Candle on a small area of skin to make sure there are no allergic reactions to the fragrances. If you do not notice a reaction, apply to the rest of your body and enjoy! We also offer a fragrance free Lotion Candle so everyone can take pleasure when using.
7. The flame height on my candle seems to be large, is that normal?
All candle flames should not exceed ¾ inch. Anywhere between ½ and ¾ inch is the normal flame height, anything larger needs to be blown out. Wait for the candle to cool and trim the wick to ¼ inch. That is most likely where your problem is. Once you have trimmed the wick, re-light your candle.
8. The candle seems like it’s not going to stay lit because the flame height is small.
Without the proper flame height your candle will not be able to have a complete wax pool. Simply pour out some of the wax and this should allow the flame height to increase giving you a more complete burn.
Important Note
The wick does not burn down with the candle wax. It is imperative that you always trim your wick for optimum burn time. And longer use from your candle.
